I've been on Effexor XR for 10 years and for the last month I've had major highs and lows. The first 2 weeks were endless expenditures on stuff I couldn't afford and didn't need.Insomnia was a major problem. These last 2 weeks have been no energy, missing work, don't need to spend any money, quit exercise. Very low. I'm on 150 mg. Dr.appt. is Monday. Maybe I should up my dose or switch to Cymbalta.

Yes, now I'm no doctor. But, I know it happened to me. I was on an antidepressant for years and it stopped "working" for me. I talked to my neuro. and I was changed to another one. After taking some meds. for a long time, they can stop working for you.

Yes, i was on paxil 10mg for six years and it stopped working. My sister in law was also on it for the same length of time and it stopped working for her as well. She stopped the paxil and switched to lexapro ....no side effects. My doctor has me switching also but he wants me to stay on the paxil and gradually taper off until the lexapro is in my system. That's what im doing but not too happy to be taking both of them at once.  I just hope lexapro is an easier drug to get off.
