depakote can cause gain weight, effexor ???

I bean to write a letter asking for response, but it just disappeared.PLease help me.  I am severely depresssed, and will try to make this short.  But I have thoughts of ending my life, and now my doctor (who had me on Effexor for  some time), is concerned about my depression becoming so bad, so she has given me some :pretiq", whhich we understand is a  new antidepressant.  ON the brochure that came withit, it says that suicide thoughts are common, and I did not need to see that, as I want to be able to feel happy for once in my long life(I am in my low 70"s), and have suffered with serious depressiion for all thse years.  It seems that klonazapan  is almost a better help for  even the depression,but it does leave me tired in the mornings- (I do take a sleeping pill in place of the klonopan occsionally) but  what I am so confused about is, I realize I am a very nervous person, and I will recall the old doctor at Mayo Clinic , many, many years ago,who felt h e should be treating me for anxiety moreso than depression, though he understood that I have the severe depression, slso.  I remember his kind ways of trying to help me, and between that and the drug named "valium"-actually it was named another name at first, then it was named "valium- I am sorry I cannot think of it at the present time.  But what I want to know is thsat now I see that a drug called"Endep" is now  on the market, describing itself as amytripaline, I believe.  Is that the same (or on the same order as what now is called valium)?  I think you know what ansers I need, and do not want this letter to disappear,so will close for now.
