Q: I am a 39 year old depressed woman, looking for info about health insurance for dealing w/ depressio

I an a 39 year old woman, who has never had health insurance.. well, once when I had Kaiser for about a year. And during that year, 2005, I was diagnosed with depression. I have since been off the insurance because I left the country, and didn't really feel overly depressed again until I was living in Spain in 2008. I bought myself some anti-depressants over the counter there, but couldn't find any therapy to work for me. Anyway, I am home in the US. Depressed again, no health insurance, and I am taking my left over meds, which will run out soon. I would like to see a doctor and get into some therapy, but can't really afford it, so I need health insurance. Of course, with all my research I still can't find any company that actually covers therapy, that isn't astronomically expensive. And I am worried, with the previous diagnosis of depression will some insurances not take me? Do you have any suggestions? I live in California. Thanks for your time. Cynthia

Since California is going downhill fast there might not be any free or reduced help anymore. But check into your local mental health dept. Or call a local hospital and speak to the information officer. They can usually direct you.

Thanks so much, I appreciate the quick response. Looks like there are lots of resources. I really need to find myself a good smart therapist. I am also looking into finally getting some health insurance, does anyone have any plan they trust? Ha ha.. who trusts health insurance companies....?

You're welcome, but Merely Me, our community leader, did all the work. I just remembered it was there.

I'm on the other side of the country and a therapist suitable, is hard to find over here too. There is a link to a Psychology Today site which may help finding a therapist here.

I hope someone recommends good insurance to you.
