Q: Just started new antidepressant. What side effects are acceptable

Hi I just started taking luvox 50mg once daily. After a few days I noticed I was having increased anxiety and tightness in my muscles in my chest.I also had a hard time falling asleep with this muscle pain. When I did fall asleep I was out cold.I would also feel very sleepy in the morning.I have just started a outpatient partial hospitilization program.I do not want the drug to make me feel any more anxious than I already am.This could effect my progress with the program. My cnp says it is up to me if I feel the side effects are to much.My question is what side effects are acceptable? She says the last thing I need to be is more anxious.I do not want to mess up my new program.Maybe it would be better for me to wait till the program is over in ten days before starting anything new.Any advice would be very helpful.THANKYOU FOR YOUR HELP

Hi, Hope.  How is the Luvox helping your depression?  Probably not all that much yet, I would guess.  If you feel like these side effects will hinder your work, you have the right to not take them, or you could maybe get a prescription for something that will counteract the anxiety.  Did your CNP have any suggestions?  Is there a chance that some of the anxiety could be about the outpatient program?

I wish you the best, hope you find it helpful.  Let us know how it goes.
