Are there any support groups in Eastern South Dakota or Western Minnesota?
Yes, there are. I've just checked the list at http://www.nami.org (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and definitely found some affiliate groups in eastern South Dakota. I couldn't find any in western Minnesota, but maybe that's because the map I used wasn't zoomed in far enough.
My NAMI group has been a lifesaver for me in my battle against depression, anxiety and other stuff. It's a place you can go and not have to endure judgment, put-downs and all of the other stupid things that people who don't "get it" about mental illness subject us to.
Go to http://www.nami.org, click on "State and Local NAMIs" (on the left side of the page), choose the state from the map that comes up, click on it and it'll list all NAMI affiliate groups in that state. It also gives you the state office so that if you can't find a group close enough to you, they may know of a new group starting up that's not on the list yet.
You can find a similar list at http://www.dbsalliance.org (Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance). They're a lot smaller and you may not find a group in your area, but it's worth checking out.
Hang in there, friend. You're not alone!
