I have had many episodes a sever depressive episodes and anxiety. I have had ECT, almost every med known. Nothing only makes me feel worse and now I have become more agoraphobic. I was wondering about vagus nerve stimulation and it's success rate. Apparently there is blood tests in Canada that tell a dr which meds will work best for you. What kind of tests are these? Although I understand the financial expense makes it financially impossible and not available in U.S. Please tell me more...

Hi there

These are excellent questions!  I wish I knew more about this treatment option...perhaps we can research this and write about it in a sharepost soon.  In the meantime here is a news article about Vagus Nerve Stimulation for you to read.

Here is a patient's point of view of this treatment although for this fellow the cause to seek this treatment is his epilepsy.

As with anything on the Internet...some information can be inaccurate but this web site says this about the cost:

"The Vagus Nerve Stimulation device costs $12,000 and the cost of surgery to implant the device can run as high as $15,000."

I would check with your doctor to get more information on this type of treatment.  I wish you the best of luck!
