Q: My Psyc.MD, who has been my therapist for over twenty years, has had his license revoke and

therefor retired. He has been on "vol. not to practice" since Jan 09. I suffer from chronic severe depression and ptsd, and social anxiety. I am so overwhelmed by this loss I don't know what to do. I did take the advise from people on this site and ask a cognitive therapist I saw occassionally to be my primary therapist while I waited for this to resolve itself, but now he is not able to be an MD. We had no time for any kind of termination. My cog. therapist is very good, but the loss of my MD is so very painful. Has anyone been through this?

Hi, there.  I'm sorry this happened to you, especially under these circumstances.  When my first psychiatrist left his practice and moved away, I really felt lost - he treated both my sons and me and was a very caring person.  Since then, I've had several others, most of them good ones.  Maybe you will be fortunate and find another good psychiatrist - look until you find one that feels like a good fit.  I'm glad you're seeing a therapist, anyway, that you  like.  Keep an open mind and heart and I think you will find what you need.
