Q: Fluoride used in making prozac?

I have a question about Prozac and Fluoride connection--I just read an article that states Prozac contains fluoride, the same chemical in many area drinking water supplys, I have read it is toxic-now I find it is a main ingredient in prozac--which i take daily--can someone verify or clear this for me?? I am concerned about this and I may just have to switch to another AD--Thank You, Sandy

Hello Sandy...

I am looking at all this "information" on the Internet and...none comes from any reputable sources.  I have heard references before to this fluoride scare seems to be one of those conspiracy theories which holds no real truth to it.

I always like to look up such things on Quackwatch which I trust.  Read this article about the fluoride scare.

Here is another quackwatch report.

Here is yet another article derived from the Wall Street Journal.

You can always ask your doctor Sandy...but it is my opinion that if Prozac is working for is good to stick with it for awhile.

Let us know how things go for you.

Skip the drugs, wean yourself off, try meditation and yoga.  My sister has been prescribed drug after drug, they come in layers, and now, I don't know who she is anymore.   There is no miracle pill but there is a wealth of learning and development when you learn to meditate and go within.  I cured myself this way.  You can do it if you really want it.  If you want the lazy pop a pill way, you will search forever but they haven't developed a soma yet, well not that I know of.  There may be something out there that just will make you not care anymore.

Lazy pop a pill way????? Not crazy about that remark! Meditation may have helped you, but if someone has a chemical imbalance, they can meditate all day long and still be clinically depressed.
