Depression and anxiety can often be experienced at the same time.  Depression usually means a low mood that hangs on for weeks or months, lack of energy, low self-esteem and can also include irritability, rage or suicidal ideation.  Anxiety is more about fear of something "bad" happening, constant worry, feeling on one's guard all the time. It is possible to be in both states at once.

Hope that helps.  Thanks for your question.
