Lisa,
According to the FDA site, there is no therapeutic equivalent to Effexor XR yet. There are generics for the regular Effexor, so that may be one option. Off the top of my head, I'd also suggest that you check www.pparx.org for patient assistance programs. The article Judy mentioned has some additional suggestions.

Lisa, have you talked to your doctor at all about not being able to afford Effexor? Yes, it does have horrible withdrawal symptoms and you don't ever want to go off it cold turkey. Here is an article by Merely Me about how to get help when you don't have insurance or can't afford it. I hope you can figure out something soon. Sometimes the drug companies themselves will help you out. Please talk to your doctor and check out the article. Let us know how it goes.
i know what you mean. i used to get brain zaps and feel really ill if i didnt take it. i managed to get it down to one a day instead of 3 with no brain zaps but its just easier to keep taking the one than to go through the withdrawal so ive been doing that for a few years now and just not taking the rest. hope you got it sorted. i'd love to know how to get off that last one. maybe you can mail me and let me know if you did get off it and how. brad3rs@ntlworld.com
