Q: how can I stop my antidepressant while breastfeeding?

I am currently on 300mg of Wellbutrin a day.  150mg 2x daily.  I am planning to breastfeed my baby and my doctor says that this antidepressant can pass into breast milk and is not approved for breastfeeding. My baby is due in a few weeks and the thought of not being able to breastfeed is very upsetting.  I would like to discontinue the medicine but my OB doctor is not sure the exact way to do this and I am not able to get in to see a Psychiatrist for over a month!  Any help?

Generally when stopping medications such as welbutrin you want to slowly decrease the amount you are taking by a quarter of a pill every couple of days. Taking things like fish oil and vitamins(like b-100, c, e, calcium) can help get you thru the process with little or no withdrawal symptoms.
