Q: I'm 22 and I cut. usually I hear about teens cutting but I started cutting at 21 because of issues at home. Is that normal? am I depressed?

First, read this article by Merely Me, the community leader and a writer for this site, who has first hand knowledge of this subject, and then if you have questions, write again and ask, please. Or you can write a sharepost explaining more about your situation and what you're going through. I know people here will try to help, if they can.

Yes, do what Paul suggests.  Usually, when people cut or hurt themselves, they are hurting emotionally and don't know of any other way to express it, or the pain inside is so bad that they think they'd feel better having some physical pain to take their attention away from it.

 

I hope you are able to get some professional help for this and I'm glad you wrote here to tell us about it.  If you'd like to write about what's going on at home, there's always someone here who will listen.  Take care, let us know how you're doing.
