Q: I currently take two 150 mg Wellbutrin per day for depression.

I currently take two 150 mg Wellbutrin per day for depression.

Due to current illness including naseau, continuous white noise, difficulty getting a solid night sleep (which I NEVER had a problem with pre-illness), head-aches, vestibular inner ear issues (they are currently treating); my ENT Dr wants me to take these:

Lipoflavanoids (for ringing),

2 mg of Melatonin,

Valeian Root (maybe for anxiety?),

Tryptophan (to help me sleep)

Can you tell me if these counteract with my (300 mg per day) Wellbutrin?  I called my pharmacist, but they told me to check on the internet.  I feel like I am canoeing without a paddle.

Thank you-

I'm thinking that these other natural remedies will probably not adversely affect the Wellbutrin, but I think you should double-check this with either the ENT or the doctor who prescribed the Wellbutrin.  I did look on the site here and didn't find any mention of combining it with things like melatonin.  Your doctors need to be aware of EVERYTHING you are taking so they can check to see if there are any interaction problems.  Hope that helps.  If these additional things make you feel worse or don't help, be sure to tell your prescribing doctor because there are other medications that can help with the sleep problems.  I don't know how long you've been on the Wellbutrin, but nausea can be a side effect which probably gets better with time.  Good luck.

I have taken 2 x 150mg doses of WellbutrinSR every day for about 5 years.  The only one of those "natural substances" I have had any experience with is the melatonin.  I didn't have any problems, but the melatonin did not help me sleep any better, so I stopped taking it.  My psychiatrist suggested that I take Benadryl to help my sleep.  But it was not until he finally put me on Clonazepam at night that I was able to get to sleep quickly and stay asleep.  (BTW, I also take Zyprexa, Trazodone, and Zoloft along with the clonazepam.)

Best wishes.
