Does anyone drink alcohol while taking antidepressants and if so, how much?
Hi Danny,
I have definitely drank a fair bit while on antidepressants - Even though you are depressed, a part of you wants to be 'normal', go out for beer with friends and do all the things you did before you were diagnosed.. and so you should! However, I'm pretty sure (not a medical opinion, of course) that drinking while on anti-depressants can have adverse effects, depending on the person and the medication in question.
I think one or two drinks now and then is okay, but just the other day, I drank quite a bit and felt absolutely terrible the next day. Hang overs seem to be amplified with my current medication (Effexor), and what's more, I was incredibly depressed for the entire day after. It's hard to know if it's because I've been dealing with a lot of things lately or if it's because of the medication/alcohol combination. Either way, I was not feeling great.
It is probably safest to try not to drink to excess while on medication. I would definitely check with your doctor for an expert opinion.
Danny
I am not a doctor just a person who has lived life a little. I do not think you are suppose to drink while taking antidepressants, and also would like to ask you, if you are depressed why would you drink alcohol when its a downer and going to make you more depressed in the end. That don't make sense.
