Have you asked your doctor this question?

I have read that some people experience withdrawal like symptoms when stopping effexor. Not saying that will happen to you. Some people slowly cut back on the amount of effexor until they are barely taking anything.

But only your doctor can answer this question and you shouldnt be afraid to ask it.

Hope this helps,

Pat

Hi Kathy,

Certainly this is an excellent question for your doctor.  But I did find a few discussions of tapering down Effexor online.

Here is a detailed description of how one person conducted a VERY SLOW taper down.

Here is a discussion of the symptoms folks experienced when trying to taper down.

And here is a lengthy thread following a similar question posed at DepressionConnection.

I hope these resources help give you more information to discuss with your doctor.
