Q: Still depressed, what do I do?

I went on YAZ to help my mood (mainly feelings of depression), but lately I've still been feeling incredibly low and I'm showing the same signs I showed before I went on YAZ. What else should I do?

Hi there

I just saw a commercial about this drug where they took back some things they were proposing it does.  This is the birth control pill...right?  And it is supposed to help with PPMD?  How long have you been taking it?

Here is the official web site for YAZ.

You might need to try a regular antidepressant.  I would definitely talk to your doctor about trying something different if this drug is not effective for your needs.

It's a good thing that you consulted with your doctor to try YAZ.  Are you also talking to a counselor?

Talk therapy can be very helpful, especially when you first are tackling depression.  Getting regular exercise helps.  Yoga can be beneficial.  Eating well helps.  Make sure that you get enough essential fatty acids in your diet (eg. deep water fish like salmon, Omega-3 supplements) which is also helpful.

Finally, sometimes we must experiment when it comes to antidepressants.  There is no one-size-fits-all.  I recommend that you talk to your doctor exactly what you've said here.  That way together you can formulate a plan of what to do next or continue to do.
