Q: Need something for anxiety/Zoloft not working

Had unexpected complications with surgery. Long recovery, just returning to 1/2 days at work. Lots of pressure. Single Mom, Caretaker of mother, full time worker.............mind spinning and can't relax. When I do 'relax', I crash. Just need something mild with few side effects to help get me through for the short term. Zoloft is making me sick, blurred vision and also muscle/joint aches. I was once on something called "clonanzapam?" and remember it working. Any suggestions?

Moonrise,

There are many options here, and your doctor could give you a list of choices. One particular medication to discuss with him is tizanidine (brand name Zanaflex). It's classified as a muscle relaxant, but has other properties as well. I was amazed at how well it helps me with anxiety. It's safe and doesn't lead to dependence if you need to take it long-term. It's also great to help with sleep.

Hope this helps!
Teri

Hi Moonrise

Here is some information about Clonozapam and side effects, etc.  And here is the link to our Anxiety site here on Health Central.  They are going to be more knowledgeable about the different anti-anxiety drugs and how they work.

I hope you find something that works for you.  You have one of the hardest jobs in the world...being a caretaker and mom.  And then you work full time too.  You deserve to feel less pressure and relaxed.
