Q: Can a cough be a side effect of taking Prozac? My daughter is on 40 mg daily and it seems she started getting a cough when the dose was increased.

Hi there

Coughing is such a common symptom of anything from a cold to allergies (it is spring) that it would be hard to say if this is a coincidence or not.

Have you asked your daughter's doctor about this yet?

Here is our information on Prozac and I am not seeing coughing as a side effect.  Doesn't mean it can't be a side effect...just that it is not listed.  I have personal experience with this medication as I have taken it and my son has taken it...we did not experience any coughing but everyone is going to react differently.

I think your best bet is to discuss this symptom with your daughter's doctor.

Thank you for your question.
