Q: Is it possible that taking Lorazepam with Citalopram will enhance the side effects of Citalopram?

My elderly mother has started taking Citalopram but seems to suffer from a very unpleasant side effect where she feels completely "out of it" and not at all good. Could this be becasue she is taking Lorazepam at the same time?

Hi there

This is a question best asked of your mother's doctor.  I would write down the side effects she is experiencing.  If she has just begun the celexa...it may take awhile to know what the full effects will be as in 6-8 weeks.  Sometimes the medication side effects will decrease as time goes on.

Here is some information about Ativan and Celexa interactions.

I would definitely discuss this with your mother's doctor.

Thank you for your question.
