Meaningful relationships have long been associated with good mental wellness, and those with pets surely fall into this category.  Studies have shown that pet owners have greater self-esteem and are less lonely, less anxious, more physically fit, and more extroverted.  This likely has something to do with the fact that there’s no better listener than your pet and they love you unconditionally.  The role of a caregiver to a pet also gives an owner a special purpose, as well as the feeling of being needed – all of which are linked to better mental wellness.
