Zyban Oral Warning

Table of Contents

This medication is used as an aid for quitting smoking. It may also be used to treat depression (antidepressant). While antidepressants can provide great benefits, a small percentage of children/teenagers taking these medications for various psychiatric conditions have had a worsening of depression/other symptoms, including suicidal thoughts/attempts. However, depression itself can sometimes lead to suicidal thoughts/attempts as well, in both children and adults. Therefore, when medications to treat depression/other psychiatric conditions (antidepressants) are used (especially in children/teenagers), the benefits and risks must be discussed with the doctor. Though there are no similar study results for adults, this warning information applies to adults taking these medications as well.

Tell your doctor immediately if you notice new or worsening depression/other psychiatric symptoms, unusual changes in behavior (including possible suicidal thoughts/attempts), or other mental/mood changes (such as new/worsening anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, irritability, hostile/angry feelings, impulsive actions, severe restlessness, very rapid speech). Watch for these symptoms especially at a time of dosage change, or when the medicine is being started.

Zyban Oral Side Effects

Dry mouth and trouble sleeping may occur as your body gets used to the drug. Dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, constipation, blurred vision, increased sweating, strange taste in mouth, or stomach pain may also occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur:
