A new study published in the journal Ophthalmology has found that antidepressants in the class known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) appear to increase the risk for cataracts in seniors. SSRIs include such commonly used drugs as Effexor, Paxil, and Luvox. The researchers say seniors who take depression drugs in this class may be increasing their cataract risk by as much as 15 percent.
