Gene variant may affect how Celexa works

Mayo Clinic scientists have uncovered more evidence that a person's genetic make-up may affect how well he or she responds to the antidepressant Celexa. The researchers looked at variations in the serotonin transporter gene SLC6A4 in about 2,000 people. They found that whites who had two variations in this gene were more likely to respond well to Celexa, while there was no link to these variations in blacks or Hispanics.
