An analysis of health data on more than 2 million people from 80 countries has found a remarkably consistent pattern about depression. In all 80 countries, the risk for depression is lowest in younger and older people, while both men and women in their middle years--their forties--are at the highest risk. The only country that showed a significant difference in depression risk between men and women was the United States, where women's risk peaks at age 40 and men's risk is the highest at age 50.
