Antidepressants in the class known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may delay the onset of lactation in mothers who take the drugs, researchers report. The investigators say their finding suggests that new mothers who take these medications--including such drugs as Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft--may need additional support in order to successfully breastfeed their babies.
