Early Symptoms. Early symptoms of hypothyroidism are subtle and, in older people, can be easily mistaken for symptoms of stress or aging. They include:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Sensitivityto cold
  • Headache
  • Muscle and joint aches
  • Weight gain, despite diminished appetite
  • Constipation
  • Dry skin
