Scientists find brain chemistry behind SAD

Researchers have discovered seasonal changes in brain chemistry that may cause some people to suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD). University of Toronto scientists performed brain scans on 88 people, looking for changes in the activity of the brain protein known as serotonin transporter. When this protein is very active, serotonin levels drop in the brain, increasing the risk of depression.
