Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have found that adults with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) may be helped by taking the antidepressant Lexapro. For the study, investigators gave either Lexapro or a placebo to 177 adults with GAD for 12 weeks. At the end of the study, 69 percent of people taking Lexapro saw reductions in their anxiety levels, compared with 51 percent of those taking a placebo.
