Strattera, a drug used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), may have given scientists a clue about the roots of ADHD. Strattera works by affecting a chemical messenger in the brain called norepinephrine. Norepinephrine helps control attention. Strattera's effect on norepinephrine has helped researchers discover that ADHD may be linked to a single gene that boosts norepinephrine levels. This gene is different in people with ADHD.
