Three separate clinical trials have found that a new drug, varenicline (Chantix), is more effective than the antidepressant Wellbutrin (Zyban) in helping people quit smoking. Though both drugs work to reduce cravings for nicotine and withdrawal symptoms, varenicline was found to help a higher percentage of patients quit smoking than the antidepressant. The studies were funded by varenicline's maker, Pfizer.
