Doctors at Northwestern University have found that patients who take selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Paxil to treat depression may be at risk for internal bleeding. Another class of drugs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), has shown similar problems with acute gastrointestinal bleeding. Researchers are particularly concerned about risks to patients who take both SSRIs and NSAIDs, and they urged doctors to monitor patients carefully for adverse effects.
