New research suggests that simple dextrose (sugar) injections may
improve pain and quality of life in people with chronic neck pain.
Prolotherapy--a series of injections of a dextrose solution into
the neck--uses sugar as an irritant to stimulate the immune system
to repair damaged connective tissues. In a recent study, 83 percent
of patients given the treatment showed improvements in walking
ability, exercise ability, anxiety, depression, and overall
disability.
