The practice of pill-splitting not only saves patients money, experts say--it also cuts costs for health plans and employers. In a recent study, researchers split the tablets of 100 health plan members' statin prescriptions for six months. At the end of the study, 89 percent said they'd be willing to keep splitting their cholesterol meds in order to continue getting the 50-percent reduction in cost.
