More Hurricane Katrina victims are thinking seriously about suicide
or showing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) than
they were just after the hurricane, a new Harvard study suggests.
Six months after the hurricane, three percent of Gulf Coast
residents reported suicidal thoughts, and that figure has risen to
eight percent. Also, 21 percent of the area's residents now show
signs of PTSD, up from 16 percent six months after the hurricane.
