Antidepressants may be as good as antipsychotics for dementia

The antidepressant Celexa may be as effective as antipsychotic meds for people with dementia, a new study suggests. Researchers studied 103 patients and found that Celexa appeared to reduce symptoms of agitation, delusion, and hallucinations as well as the commonly-prescribed medication Risperdal. Experts say this may be especially helpful because antidepressants have fewer side effects than antipsychotics. Read more »
