Two common antidepressants, Zoloft and nortriptyline (sold as Pamelor and Aventyl), have been found to be safe and effective in treating postpartum depression. Zoloft, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, and nortriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant, showed similar rates of effectiveness in the University of Pittsburgh study. The study is one of the first to compare two different classes of antidepressants in the treatment of this debilitating condition.
