The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has called for warnings to be added to four common asthma medications, including Advair, Foradil, Seravent, and Symbicort. These long-acting beta agonist (LABA) drugs should not be used alone or as a long-term treatment. The FDA says studies suggest using the drugs alone can worsen asthma and lead to death. Experts point out, however, that these suggestions do not apply to patients with COPD.
