FDA warns consumers to avoid peanut butter products

Officials at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are warning consumers to avoid eating all products that contain peanut butter or peanut butter paste, except for jarred peanut butter. The FDA's move comes in response to a widespread salmonella outbreak linked to peanut butter that has already sickened 453 people, six of them fatally. In response to the FDA's announcement, cereal giant Kellogg recalled 16 products containing peanut butter late Friday. The recall involved 33,000 cases of cookies and 7 million cases of crackers on grocery shelves, including packaged cheese and peanut butter sandwich crackers and Famous Amos brand peanut butter cookies. Other brandnames recalled by Kellogg include Austin and Keebler.  Read full story >
