Brain thinning may show depression risk

According to new research, people who have a high family risk of suffering from depression have less brain matter on the right side compared to people who do not have this high risk. In the new study, scientists in New York found that the 28-percent brain thinning seen on brain scans of high-risk patients was on par with losses seen in Alzheimer's disease. The researchers also found that patients who actually were depressed also had thinning on the left side of cortex. They also say that people who have this brain thinning are not only predisposed to depression, but they may have some cognitive and inattention issues as well.  Read full story >
