FDA lists drugs with potential safety risks

Officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have released a list of two dozen drugs that it is in the early stages of reviewing for possible safety problems. The list includes such medications as the sleep medications Nuvigil and Provigil, the smoking cessation drug Chantix, the weight loss med Alli (sold as Xenical by prescription), and the overactive bladder medicine Detrol. Also included are the HIV drug Sustiva and the contraceptive Yasmin. FDA officials say many of the drugs' safety issues have been previously disclosed, but they remain under review by the agency.  Read full story >
