Fathers' depression linked to crying babies: study

Previous studies have found that depression among mothers can be related to excessive crying or colic in their babies. But new research suggests that a father's depression can also contribute to crying and colic in infants. For their study, investigators looked at symptoms of depression among parents of 4,426 infants who were two months old. Overall, only 2.5 percent of the infants in the study fit the criteria for "excessive crying," but the parents of these infants--both mothers and fathers--had a 30 percent higher risk for depression.  Read full story >
