Positive emotions help build resistance to stress, depression

People who experience positive emotions may be building their resistance to hard times, researchers say. The study in North Carolina suggests that noticing and appreciating the small moments of happiness during the day can help build up the ability to ward off depression and stress. And researchers say this experience of happiness does not mean people need to have super-human levels of joy--even participants with normal and slightly above-normal levels of positive emotions on a daily basis developed resistance to negative emotions.
