Color Wheel Shows Depressed People Feel Gray, Not Blue

The popular notion that depressed people feel "blue" appears to be a few shades off, researchers say, since most depressed people describe their condition as being like the color gray. Investigators at the University of Manchester constructed a color wheel with a wide range of shades on it. They then asked both depressed and non-depressed patients to pick the color they felt most drawn to, their favorite color, and the color that best described their current mood. Though both depressed and non-depressed patients tended to be drawn to the same color (yellow) and to pick the same favorite color (blue), depressed patients described their current mood as gray, while non-depressed people chose a shade of yellow.  Read full story >
