Mothers' Alcoholism Particularly Hard on Daughters' Mental Health

A team of researchers from Yale University has found that the risk of a child of an alcoholic parent developing a psychiatric illness in later life depends, in part, on the child's gender and on which parent--mother or father--had the drinking problem. The scientists found that the strongest link was found between mothers and daughters, with daughters of these women showing increased risks of mania, nicotine dependence, alcohol abuse, and schizoid personality disorder.  Read full story >
