Mother's Response to 9/11 Attacks Influenced Kids' Mental Health

According to a new study of New York City preschoolers, children whose mother struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression after the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center were more likely to have behavioral problem than children whose mothers coped more easily with the attacks. The researchers found the mother's psychiatric state affected the children's mental health even more than whether the children actually witnessed the attacks themselves.
