'Party Drug' Could Be Used to Treat Depression

Scientists at Yale are working to develop ketamine--a drug used in party circles under the name "Special K"-- into a powerful and effective antidepressant. Ketamine was developed in the 1960s and used as an anaesthetic, and its potential as an antidepressant has been known for about 10 years. Now researchers at Yale say they are working to develop ketamine into an oral antidepressant that would work differently than current meds, since the drug's action does not involve the brain chemical serotonin.  Read full story >
