Diabetes Plus Depression Increases Death Risk: Study

Women who suffer from depression as well as diabetes are twice as likely to die as women who have only one of the conditions. Researchers at Harvard Medical School say that the two conditions may be both biologically and behaviorally connected, since people who have diabetes and are depressed are more likely to engage in risky behaviors such as smoking, and they're less likely to adhere to their medication schedule and exercise and healthy eating plans. Researchers say it's important for patients and doctors to understand that both conditions need to be treated in order to raise overall health.
