My diagnoses story.

By Danjo92 Wednesday, November 21, 2007

This post is going to be all about my diagnoses story,if you dont want to know what DKA is like then dont read this post, and if you dont want to read a story that covers about 3 days then dont read this.

Im pretty sure it started on december 6th,2006 (the first signs of DKA). I was tired, always hungry, always thirsty and my urin smelled like sour fruit Blink  (that means you have alot of keytones.) and I was loseing weight, I didnt think much about the weight loss cause I was usually only 105 pounds (I was 105 when this all started) I wasn't feeling all that great by that night, and the next morning (about 3 pm i think) I woke up from nausa and so I go lay on the couch and watch TV,by now i figure my blood glucose level was probobly in the 500s, im just downing water and food and im throwing up maby a few times here and there, then that night im in huge amounts of pain because of all the throwing up,my "Abs" were soar and once in a while the pain would spike...Skiping to the next day when my mom gets home from getting food from the store, she pours me a water bottle of ginger ale and a water bottle of water, about ten minuts later im asking for more, now my vomiting has spiked to about 15 times an hour,by now im in pain like i've never been in before and im screaming at the top of my lungs. Skiping a bit more to that night when my dad gets home,he comes down the where i am and looks at me and prays for me and then realizes that im pale and looking skinier then ever he gets up and tells me to get my slipers on (BTW my legs are also in pain) he tells my mom to get into the car and he then helps me out to the car because wwere going to ergency care, now afture a drive that seemed like hours we finally get to ergency care. As im walking in my mom trys to help me up some stairs and yet i push her away, my mom also notices that I have a wild look in my eyes, like my eyes are glazed over. This is the funny part even though I dont remember this,we get into the waiting room and im like "why is there a waiting room for an ergency care!" Then I see the water fountan thingy, and every thing goes quiet untill I ask "can I have some water"? Now to the funny part,my mom told me that there was a kid about my age waiting as well and that she heard him and his parents talking "are you sure you feel bad enough for us to pay $85?" (I think it was $85) And he says "Im not even half as bad as that kid sitting over there" (he was talking about me) And then they left, now afture a while the receptionist calls us in and the docter tells me to lay down,so I do and im still in pain. Afture alot of needle poking (they couldnt get an IV into my veins) they desided that I had appinisidus (or how ever you spell it). They call an ambulance and im put in. Me and a very young (and as my mom says good looking) EMT are in the back and anouther EMT is driving, now as we're going to the closest hospital the EMT back with me is using a IV needle meant for babys since my veins were so thin (even though they are usually bright blue and thick, thats how dehydrated I was) any ways,I was going to shut my eyes right when the EMT tells me not to fall asleep,im glad he didnt let me fall asleep or I would have gone into a coma,he asked me how old I was (14 at the time) he kept asking me how I was feeling (oh i forgot he put a pure oxygen mask on me,it helped alot)I was feeling much better now but I did have to repeat myself cause my lips were so chapped. Lets skip a little,ok the EMTs take me out of the ambulance and takes me into the ER and quickly doctors are drawing blood from deep blood vesels and other things like that, I didn't really mind I was too tired for it to hurt at all.Now my doctor comes in and says to my parents "Your son has diabetes" and then my mom says "No he has apenisidus" (or how ever you spell that word -.-)...

Hi Danjo,

Wow... this story is unbelievable. I can't believe how high your blood sugar was...

That was one of the most traumatic stories I've heard about diabetes diagnosis. Are your parents overprotective because of it??

Everyone else, please share your diagnosis stories!!

To your question about my parents: No not at all my mom is on a list and recearches stuff about diabetes so thats helpfull but no the're not over protectvive

That's great that your parents aren't overprotective!!! Most of the teens with diabetes I know say their parents are pretty worried all the time -- but that's how parents are, I know mine worry like crazy about me and I don't even have diabetes! (And, I'm almost 23....)

Wow it must've really sucked to have been that sick and not have known why.  I was lucky that they caught mine early so I wasn't in DKA yet.  Just make sure to keep track of your blood sugars because honeymoon periods begin to end around a year.
