Hi, im an eighteen year old college student with type 1 diabetes. I have an intense exercise program that I follow to bodybuild, along with a pretty strict weight gaining diet currently. About a month ago i started taking a pro-hormone, along with my other normal various supplements. My blood sugars are running pretty high often, and I'm pretty sure it's because of the pro-hormone. Is this correct? And, is there anything I can do to continue to take the rest of my cycle and maintain healthy blood sugars?
Thanks,
Aaron

Hey Aaron,
The only way for you to continue taking these drugs and maintain normal blood sugars is to change your insulin doses. Also, if you are getting a lot bigger, your body probably needs more insulin, even though you're gaining muscle and not fat.
Do you use a pump? If so, think about trying the temp basal setting to increase the insulin you're given across the board before making permanent changes. If you're not consistently high, it could be helpful to make a chart of your blood sugars to find out which doses need to change.
I think Ginger knows more about prohormones than I do, so I'm sure she'll give you the low down on their effects on blood sugar.
Welcome to Diabeteens :)
