On Day 2 of the Friends for Life conference, breakfast in the convention center was followed by a Keynote Session featuring former surgeon general Ken Moritsugu and Tom Karlya, "The Diabetes Dad." Moritsugu spoke of his personal history (he was diagnosed with Type 1 at the age of 55) and on the topic of health literacy, encouraging us to press our doctors for more information and to really take charge of our diabetes management. Karlya's heart-warming talk reminded us that family support plays a key role in successfully managing diabetes.
I attended seminars throughout the day - including one called "Sick Day Management for Young Adults", and another presented by Sebastien Sasseville.
The evening program featured the Family and Friends Banquet, where we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of CWD. That night, I really sensed the importance of CWD and this annual FFL conference to so many families.
